RICHARD
HILL, O.D.
Dr. Richard Hill is the senior member of Cedar Rapids
Eyecare. He is the founding member of the current era of the practice. Dr.
Hill was raised in Ellsworth, Iowa and did his undergraduate work at
Simpson College. While attending Simpson, Dr. Hill was a member of the
men’s basketball team. He continued his education at Southern College of
Optometry in Memphis, graduating with honors in 1967. Two years were spent
as an officer in the U.S. Public Health Corps in Washington D.C., before
he arrived at his practice in 1969.
After 38 enjoyable years in Optometry, he is slowing down and spending
more time in Florida, traveling the world, and especially enjoying his
four granddaughters here in Cedar Rapids.

TODD
HEYING, O.D.
Dr. Todd Heying,
a native of Sioux City, IA is the second oldest of seven children. He
attended high school at Sioux City Heelan where he graduated in 1989 as
valedictorian. He continued his education at the University of Iowa,
graduating there in 1993. Upon graduating, he spent one year as a
Research Assistant in the Virology Lab at the University of Iowa Hospitals
and Clinics. He then continued his studies at the Illinois College of
Optometry where he was honored as a four year Presidential Scholar, the
highest award bestowed upon the school and reserved for its top entering
students. His external clinical training in ocular disease included
training at Olympia Fields Hospital in Olympia Fields, Illinois. Upon
graduation from optometry school, he returned to Iowa in 1998 and began
his private practice patient care here at Cedar Rapids Eyecare. While in
practice, he built upon his interest in difficult-to-fit contact lenses,
becoming one of the first doctors in the state certified in Corneal
Refractive Therapy. He is married to Dr. Kara Heying and has three
daughters. In his spare time he enjoys playing golf and spending time
with his family.

KARA
HEYING, O.D., FCOVD
Dr. Kara
Heying was born and raised in Cedar Rapids, IA. She graduated from
Washington High School in 1990, and she attended the university of Kansas
where she graduated in 1994. Following in her father’s footsteps, she
pursued optometry. She attended the Illinois College of Optometry where
her external clinical training in ocular disease included the Veteran’s
Hospital in Hampton, Virginia and the Veteran’s Hospital in Perry Point,
Maryland. Further emphasis into pediatric optometry was done at the
University of Chicago in Chicago, Illinois. Upon graduating, Dr. Heying
received highest honors in the area of pediatric clinical training. She
also received the Cribb Scholarship for exemplary patient care
performance. After graduating in 1998 she returned to Cedar Rapids to
join her father in private practice. Building upon her interest in
children’s eyecare, she completed a post-doctoral fellowship program
through the College of Optometry in Visual Development. Her sub-specialty
in private practice includes children’s eyecare and vision therapy. She
is married to Dr. Todd Heying and has three children. She enjoys her
involvement in numerous community organizations and her children’s school
and church activities. |
CHRISTINE
WINTER CORELLA, O.D., FAAO, FCOVD
Dr. Christine
Winter Corella was born and raised in Cedar Rapids. She received
her undergraduate education at the University of Iowa where she graduated
with honors in biology. She continued her education at the Southern
College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee where she was given the Gold
Key Award for her commitment to service and leadership within the
community. She received external clinical training in ocular disease at
the Wolfe Clinic in Marshalltown and Cedar Rapids. Upon graduation from
optometry school, she chose to further her education by completing a
residency in primary care optometry, with emphasis in pediatrics and
developmental vision, at the NOVA Southeastern University in Fort
Lauderdale. During this period of extensive training, Dr. Winter gained
expertise in the treatment and management of ocular disease by working in
the specialty diabetic, macular, and glaucoma clinics at the university
and with renowned neuro-ophthalmologists
and retinal specialists in Southern Florida. Although Dr. Winter received
extensive training in many areas of eye care, her greatest area of
expertise lies in the area of developmental vision, pediatrics, and vision
therapy. She has found great fulfillment in helping children struggling
with vision-related learning problems reach their full potentials and
succeed in the classroom. Dr. Winter has also been inducted as a
Fellow into the prestigious American Academy of Optometry, and the College
of Optometrists in Vision Development. She is married to Mario, and
is expecting her first child. She
enjoys her annual humanitarian mission trips to Latin America where she
gives free eye exams and glasses to the underprivileged.
TILENA
WATERS, O.D.
Dr. Tilena Waters is the newest member of the Cedar Rapids Eye Care team
of doctors. She was raised in
Marion
,
IA
and graduated from
Marion
High School
in 1998. Dr. Waters received
her Bachelor of Science in 2002 from
Buena Vista
University
, in
Storm Lake
,
IA.
Her optometric education was
completed at the Illinois College of Optometry in 2006.
She graduated in the Tomb and Key Honor Society which honors
students on the basis of superior scholastic achievement and leadership.
Dr. Waters also received honorary marks in all four of her external
clinical rotations. She
received clinical externship training in ocular disease at the William V.
Chappell Veterans Affairs in
Daytona Beach
,
FL
and at the Wolfe Clinic in
Cedar Rapids
,
IA.
Dr. Waters received extensive
low vision training at the
Eastern
Blind
Rehabilitation
Center
and Clinic in
West Haven
,
CT.
Her pediatric interest
started during her clinical rotation at the
University
of
Chicago
, in
Chicago
,
IL
. She chose to further her
optometric education by completing a residency in primary care, with an
emphasis in pediatrics and vision therapy at
Nova
Southeastern
University
in
Fort Lauderdale
,
FL.
During her residency, Dr.
Waters was extensively trained in the areas of ocular disease and
pediatrics. She worked in the
specialty diabetic, macular, glaucoma, strabismus, amblyopia, and vision
therapy clinics. Although Dr.
Waters has training in many specialized areas, her greatest interests are
in pediatrics, vision therapy, and developmental vision.
Dr. Waters has found great joy in helping children succeed and
reach their vision goals. She
is delighted to be back in her hometown.
Dr. Waters enjoys traveling, playing volleyball, and spending time
with her family and friends.
