Getting ready for contact lenses…..

We have a short exercise for you to do each day, in preparation for inserting your contact lenses. This exercise should be done during the course of the day, each time you wash your hands.

  1. Wash your hands with soap and water. Dry your hands on a clean lint free towel.

  2. Place a drop of solution on your middle finger.

  3. While looking down, take your non dominant hand and using your two longest fingers, pull up on your upper lid, and hold your lid to keep it from closing. Using your opposite hand, place your ring finger, your fourth finger, on your eyelashes of your lower lid. While looking up, touch the corner of your eye with your wet middle finger. Hold your finger to that spot for three seconds. The next time you wash your hands, move that finger closer to your iris, again holding for three seconds. Keep progressing closer to your eye, until you can touch the white of the eye next to your iris. Do this exercise on both eyes.

At first, your top eyelid will react by wanting to close as you do this exercise. As you keep working with your eyes, your eyelid will stay open while you touch your eye. This exercise will give you the feeling of what it’s like to insert a contact lens on the surface of your eye. When you are able to touch your eye for three seconds, you will then be ready for contact lenses.
